Tankless Water Heater Costs
Tankless water heaters may or may not cost more money than a tank-style water heater. It all depends on what model you select as price ranges can vary for condensing and non-condensing models. Condensing units will most likely be more expensive than non-condensing units up-front, but they offer more flexibility with install. Tankless installation will most certainly cost more than a tank, though.
Tankless Installation Is More Complicated
When replacing a tank water heater with a similar tank, it’s an easy replacement. Tankless installation is a lot more complicated:
- Since the water connections are in a different location, your water pipes will likely need to be modified.
- Tank-type vents aren’t compatible with tankless vents and would, therefore, need to be replaced.
- Your existing gas line may need to be upgraded in size to accommodate a tankless unit.
- And lastly, you’ll need a power source with a tankless. If there’s not an outlet nearby, you’ll need to have one installed.
